Blue Square Art Competition

The annual BLUE Square ART COMPETITION 2020 and exhibition is sponsored by ArtheartHQ.

ArtheartHQis the philanthropic branch of Arthead. It is the foundation of Arthead's Culture and the culmination of the love and artistic journey of co-founders Sonja and Bob Millis. It is a tribute to Bob’s legacy of community contribution and to the “rules” he lived by.

  • The answer to life is to be kind.
  • Be creative with yourself to be the best version of YOU every day.
  • One person can make a difference. Acting together, we empower each other to be so much more than one alone.
  • Just as you cannot compare people, you cannot compare art. Enjoy difference and be strengthened by it.

ArtheartHQpromotes a philosophy for living, built around the guiding principles of kindness, compassion, creativity and community. ArtheartHQaims to inspire and encourage people to be the best they can be, through hosting events and supporting creative community projects.

Sonja Millis of Arthead is the founder of this competition. Sonja was inspired to begin the competition as a tribute to the legacy of Bob Millis who was an artist and art teacher who left us in 2017. Both Sonja and Bob have always felt a calling to provide a safe space to nurture and encourage people to participate in fine art.

The competition theme is set around the colour blue.  The colour blue will appear somewhere in every work in the exhibition. All artists are asked to submit either two-dimensional or three-dimensional works in 407 x 407mm (16” x 16”) or 407mm x 407mm x 407mm formats.

People of all ages and stages in artmaking, from all areas of art practice, are encouraged to participate, through local press and social media promotions. The Blue Square Art Competition is all about inclusivity.

This exhibition is a tribute to every artist who enters. It's not so much a competition, but more a broad sweep of immense community spirit to assist in the work of ArtheartHQin fundraising for CanAssist Southern Highlands. One third of all entry fees are donated to CanAssist.

The Southern Highlands Branch of CanAssist, draws no administration fees, is a volunteer and not for profit organisation, offering direct and timely financial assistance to patients living with cancer who are residents of the Wingecarribee Shire.

We hope that you enjoy the annual exhibition, are inspired by how many people have enter and the wonderful diversity of creative expression from all ages. Each person in this exhibition purposely makes a current artwork and contributes to raising significant funds for CanAssist. All the artworks combined come together to create an art installation in itself.

The exhibition is testament to how each entrant, by their involvementcan make a difference. Together we are as one.

We celebrate these art works as a statement of the artistic expression in this Highlands community. We hope they add colour and joy to your day.
