Blue Square Art Competition

The BLUE Square ART COMPETITION 2020and exhibition is sponsored by ArtheartHQ.

ArtheartHQ is the underlying foundation and culture of Arthead. ArtheartHQ is a philosophy for living built around the guiding principles of kindness,
compassion, creativity and community. ArtheartHQ aims to inspire and encourage people to be the best they can be through hosting events and supporting creative community projects.

This is the 3rd annual ArtheartHQ BLUE Square art competition.  Sonja Millis of Arthead is the founder of this competition, and hopes to have enough entries to raise significant money for CanAssist – for every entry, $10 will be donated to our local branch of CanAssist. The Southern Highlands Branch of CanAssist take zero administration fees, is purely voluntary, is not for profit and offers direct and timely financial assistance to patients who are residents of the Wingecarribee Shire and are living with cancer.

Artists mostly make work in isolation, and great ideas can flourish in times of adversity. This is in response to our present need to self-isolate and be socially separated. As artists we need time to make our work, and we need opportunities to present it. As community members we love to be inspired, delighted, surprised, challenged and engaged, and to share our views and ideas. So this is your chance to work together to make this fabulous idea happen.

By participating in The BLUE Square exhibition you will be contributing to an exciting visual experience that will benefit the whole community. The current pressures and limitations of self-isolation and “essential only” visits to town, for food shopping, medical visits, or coffee pick-up on the way to or from work have made it a lonely if not bleak experience. The BLUE Square exhibition will change that in a positive way.

The exhibition is open for entries from anyone – this event is all about inclusivity!  You may be a beginner or experienced in artmaking – all are welcome. This competition includes paintings, photography, digital prints, multimedia, drawings.  Your entry must be an original work by you and have been created within the last 12 months.

In 2020 The BLUE Square competition will be exhibited during August & September at the new Arthead gallery 280 Argyle Street, Moss Vale (next door to Arthead Shop) and in local businesses in the main street of Moss Vale. The aim is also to support businesses by using their shopfronts for display.  Due to social distancing policies this means that everyone can visit the exhibition.  The exhibition will also be shown online.

The entry date for The BLUE Square this year has been extended to 5pm Friday 31 July 2020, so there’s still plenty of time to create your masterpiece, if you haven’t already!  So get to Arthead, purchase your square canvas, and start painting, drawing, mixing your media, collaging printing out those wonderful digital images… making that sculpture – just remember it has to include the colour BLUE.
